Self-Care Beyond Bubble Baths

Updated: Sep 18, 2022

Self-care is so much more than a bubble bath or a walk in the park. Self-care is a way of relating to yourself lovingly, kindly with acceptance.

Life is hard enough as it is, factor in trauma, abuse, sexual assault, discrimination, micro-aggressions, disorder eating, body issues, poverty, and/or mental illness etc. and self-care is not just something nice to do for yourself, self-care is essential for your life.

So, how can you care for yourself in a way that is truly transformative? If you have been coping with symptoms of anxiety, depression, and/or PTSD, is it time for Psychotherapy or medication? Is it time to loosen the stigma or judgment around your symptoms and get yourself the care that you are worthy of receiving?

If you have been struggling with a negative body image or disordered way of eating, is it time to really give to yourself a new acceptance or neutral view of your body? Can you really allow yourself to eat the thing you are craving or let yourself eat to fullness?

If you are struggling with shame from an abusive partner, upbringing, family, view of yourself, culture, religion or belief system, is it time for mindfulness, awareness or a letting go?

Adulthood is the time in our lives where we have the control and knowledge to re-parent ourselves, to learn and begin a new way of being. We have the opportunity to treat ourselves with the love and acceptance we are worthy and deserving of. A chance to be our own baby.
